”Journalism is what we need to make democracy work.”

~ Walter Cronkite

I’m Chris Fluellen,

a journalist passionate about storytelling, media production, and civic engagement. Soon, I’ll be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Hampton University. At Hampton, I served as co-executive producer for WHOV-TV, where I contributed to developing and producing content that informs the campus community.

My professional experience also includes roles as a social media intern with the Detroit Writing Room and a consumer communications intern with Molson Coors Beverage Company. Through these opportunities, I’ve developed a strong foundation in audience engagement and strategic communication across media platforms.

My work has been recognized through my selection as a 2026 White House Correspondents’ Scholarship recipient, my induction into the Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society, and my participation in the 2025 NABJ Student Multimedia Project Cohort as a producer. I also earned first place in education reporting for my article, “Dear America, Fund Your HBCUs,” and placed second in Ally x TMCF’s Moguls in the Making pitch competition.

In addition to my academic and professional work, I am actively involved in advocacy and civic engagement. I currently serve as a Student Survivor Fellow with Everytown for Gun Safety, and my past experience includes roles as a Democracy Fellow with the Campus Vote Project and an intern with Students for Voting Justice.

I am also the creator and host of Rooted in Politics, a platform dedicated to exploring the political and social issues shaping our communities. Through this work, I hope to inform and use communication as a tool for advocacy and change.
